Murder on the Orient Express

  I love a locked room mystery, but put that room on a train mired in a snowstorm and you’ve got a classic. Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express is the perfect mix of fascinating plot and exciting twists and turns. Even when you know the final reveal it still entertains. Ken Ludwig’s adaptation is particularly excellent; tightening the story, dropping clues in every scene, and pulling the audience in quickly. In the opening moments an eerie voice over adds a layer of creepy intimacy to the story. It sets the stage for the mystery that’s about to unfold. The real kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby provided the inspiration for this mystery, which gives it an added gravitas. Once we are on the train, the sets are beautiful. The bar car is particularly splendid and William Mohoney’s design uses space well with a turntable and an additional set on a balcony. COVID-19 and How to Support the Arts

Less than a week ago I saw Murder on the Orient Express at the Indiana Repertory Theatre. The set was opulent and the murder was crackling with tension and humor... and no one else will get to see it. Since that night the IRT, along with almost every arts organization in the city, has decided to cancel the rest of its shows through the Spring. There are directors, set designers, and actors who have poured their hearts into these productions that the public will never see. It's heartbreaking. The city is going dark in the hope that we can stop the rapid spread of COVID-19. It's a hard choice, but one that is incredibly important for the safety of the public.  That being said, the arts community, restaurants, and small businesses in our city are facing a very tough time. IRT 2019/20 Season Announcement

Indiana Repertory Theatre has announced the 2019 - 2020 season, which ranges from classic and beloved stories to thought-provoking and diverse work. Scheduled from September 4, 2019 to May 10, 2020, the season will take audiences on a journey through modern and historical times, realistic and magical elements, and intense and heartwarming emotions.  New elements this upcoming season include an expanded schedule for the Exploring Stages production The Choo-Choo That Thinks She Can to provide options for both fall and spring performances, and this year’s version of A Christmas Carol will feature certain design updates that have not happened in more than fifteen years. Marking a quarter century of support for the Indiana Repertory Theatre, OneAmerica Financial Partners is the Season Sponsor for the 25th straight year.
